Matxalen Legarreta Iza

She holds a bachelor’s in Sociology from the UPV/EHU and an international doctorate in Sociology from the same university. She complete postgraduate studies in both the UPV/EHU (University Specialist in Applied Social Research) and the Complutense University of Madrid (Specialist in Praxis of the Sociology of Consumption: Theory and Practice in the Research of Markets). Likewise, she has completed research visits to the Autonomous University of Madrid, the Autonomous National University of Mexico and Cardiff University. Her principal areas of research are: domestic and care work, gender inequalities, Surveys on Time Budgets and the sociology of time. She works from a feminist perspective which places life sustainability front and centre.

Since 2008 she has been a lecturer at the Sociología y Trabajo Social. In undergraduate studies, she teaches the class Sociology of Everyday Life in the Sociology degree and the class Statistics Applied to Communication in the degrees of Journalism, Publicity and Public Relations and Audio-visual Communication. In postgraduate studies, she teaches material dealing with feminist methodology, on time and gender inequalities and on domestic work and caring in the following masters at the UPV/EHU: Models and Areas of Research in the Social Sciences, Feminist and Gender Research and Equality of Men and Women. Moreover, she is the coordinator of the Sociology undergraduate degree.

As well as her works as a teacher and researcher, she collaborates regularly with town councils, associations and other types of local bodies developing research from a perspective of social intervention and giving talks and training and awareness courses related to her fields of work.
